The French-born Crenn, 59, gained renown for being the first female chef in the U.S. to attain three Michelin stars for her restaurant Atelier Crenn in San Francisco.

As part of her role, Crenn will curate two signature menus for the boats in the Burgundy, Champagne and South of France regions, each featuring a specially crafted starter, main course and dessert. Crenn's menus will highlight seasonal ingredients that leverage the history and culture of these regions.

• Focus on culinary travel: Eating around the world

"The menus I've designed celebrate the finest local ingredients and time-honored techniques to pay homage to the region's rich heritage," Crenn said.

The appointment will take effect in 2025.

Les Bateaux Belmond operates a fleet of seven vessels that it refers to as "floating villas." Each accommodates four to 12 passengers.

The company is part of the Belmond luxury brand owned by LVMH (Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton).
