CapeNature launched the Damara Trail at De Mond Nature Reserve near Arniston in the Western Cape of South Africa. The experience marks South Africa's first designated "slow hiking" experience and invites visitors to slow down and enjoy the environment at a leisurely pace.

This slow hike has been designed for ages 8 and older and all fitness levels. Unlike other strenuous hikes, this two-day route features a gentle slope, smooth terrain and scenic rest stops situated along the route.

Two days of hiking

On the first day, hikers embark on a 5-kilometer hike (a little more than three miles, taking approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes) leading to an overnight wooden deck facility, where they can set up their tent accompanied by the sounds of the ocean beneath the night sky. Day 2 extends the journey with an 11.5-kilometer hike (approximately seven miles, a trek of about 3 hours and 45 minutes) along a scenic coastal route, where the trail will end on the beach in Arniston.

Hikers have the option of spending the second night at any of the accommodation establishments in Arniston and are encouraged to take in the local sights, sounds and experiences that this quaint fishing village has to offer. Thereafter a dedicated shuttle service will collect visitors and transfer them back to the De Mond Nature Reserve.

Ashley Naidoo, CEO of CapeNature, said, "This hike allows people to connect with nature at a slower pace and fully enjoy their surroundings."
